Obama Derangement Syndrome

I saw this clip yesterday and thought President Obama and Michelle both came off in a relaxed, pleasant and positive way:

Imagine my surprise to discover what the right-wingers have chosen to take from President Obama's and Michelle's messages to the country on Thanksgiving.  Any guesses?  You aren't going to believe this one.  They are all crowing about how Michelle is "giving them permission" to eat pie.  Now, see...when I watched it I thought all those folks who have been complaining about her efforts to get people to eat healthy would be thrilled.  Here she is telling people to relax and enjoy the holiday with their family.  Don't worry about the occasional lapse in healthy eating.  Moderation and all that.  But's just one more example of her socialistic efforts to control people.

Here are just three of the many, many links I found to sites promoting this asinine meme:

Phew! Michelle Obama Gives Permission to Eat Pie!

Michelle Obama OKs Americans to Eat Pie on Thanksgiving

Good News! Queen Michelle Has Given us the OK to Eat Pie on Thanksgiving

Warning: Don't read the comments unless you are prepared to see just how hateful and racist people can be.  Not to mention, stupid.  She talks about visiting military bases and what a great sacrifice military families make.  She encourages people to come together during the holidays - to laugh and enjoy one another.  And all these nutjobs take from that is her off-hand comment about enjoying a piece of pie on Thanksgiving?  That, my friends, is a classic case of "Obama Derangement Syndrome".

By the way, my brother is a pediatrician and you would not believe how much childhood obesity he deals with.  He just told me the other day about a 15 year old patient of his who weighs over 400 pounds.  Four...hundred...pounds.  But no, we don't need no uppity First Lady tellin' us how to eat.  No, siree.  In fact, here's what Sarah Palin had to say about Michelle Obama's "Let's Move" initiative to get kids to be more active and to eat healthier:

"Take her anti-obesity thing that she is on. She is on this kick, right. What she is telling us is she cannot trust parents to make decisions for their own children, for their own families in what we should eat.

"And I know I'm going to be again criticized for bringing this up, but instead of a government thinking that they need to take over and make decisions for us according to some politician or politician's wife priorities, just leave us alone, get off our back and allow us as individuals to exercise our own God-given rights to make our own decisions and then our country gets back on the right track."

She and her adoring ninnies think that if you just let parents "make decisions for their own children" all will be hunky dory but that education programs encouraging kids to get more exercise, drink fewer sugary sodas, and eat more vegetables is taking away "our own God-given rights to make our own decisions".  Good God Almighty, it gets more ridiculous every day.

When Laura Bush tried to encourage parents to teach children to read, why wasn't it taken that way?

Oh right, I forgot. Never mind.

As we talked about the other day at Thanksgiving your child being that heavy at such a young age is child abuse. Those kids are now set up for having a lifetime of weight problems.
