Music Monday ~ "We Shall Overcome" (Joan Baez)

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day so it's only fitting that I post what I consider to be the definitive song of the Civil Rights Movement:

And here is a new song commemorating MLK and his work:

There are so many famous MLK quotes that selecting just one is a true challenge. However, I find this one to be rather timely in light of current affairs here in the United States:
“You know, Jesus reminded us in a magnificent parable one day that a man went to hell because he didn’t see the poor. And I come by here to say that America, too, is going to hell, if we don’t use her wealth. If America does not use her vast resources of wealth to end poverty, to make it possible for all of God’s children to have the basic necessities of life, she, too, will go to hell.” — Martin Luther King, Jr.
If you haven't done so recently (or ever), today is a good day to listen to MLK's "I Have a Dream" speech:

"Speak out for justice! Stand up for the poor and destitute!"
Proverbs 31:9 (MSG)
